Abstract: 

Background & Objective: Every stage of humankind’s life is associated with STRESS. Different people use different ways to confront STRESS in their lives, e.g. retirement period. The present research aims at reviewing ways of confronting STRESS among those POLICE forces that are to be retired in Yazd Province POLICE Command (YPPC) and its relationship with their personal characteristics. Material and Methods: The present research is of descriptive-analytical type conducted in a periodical way. Samples were selected through simple random sampling (n=135). The required data was collected through using a questionnaire of personal characteristics and standard scale of behaviorist reactions resulted from STRESS i.e. counteracting methods to assess ways of combating STRESS (a= 0.93). Kroscal Wallace test was used for analyzing data.Findings: The results of the analysis were an indication of the difference in application of STRESS coping techniques among prospective retired POLICE personnel. While reviewing the relevant results it can be seen that there was a significant relationship between behaviorist reactions and characteristics such as the potential to continue working, number of people they financially support and job satisfaction. However, there was no significant statistical relationship between applying these methods and some characteristics such as education and economic status.

Abstract: 

The purpose of this research was to Construct and validate the Short Form of Iranian POLICE STRESS Scale (IPSS-Zarifiyan yegane and Khalambor, 2004) by Factor Analysis and assessing reliability and validity. 3650 POLICE officers of IRIPF (Islamic Republic of Iran POLICE Force) personnel throughout the country completed the IPSS questionnaires. Based on of factor analysis of collected data, 40 items of 85 items of questionnaires were eliminated and therefore IPSS short form (i.e. IPSS-A) was provided. IPSS-A validity was determined by correlation coefficient between long form and short form (r=0.98 for the 1st factor & r=0.96 for the 2nd factor) and its reliability was identified by test-re-test method (r=0.78 for the 1st factor & r=0.80 for the 2nd factor) and internal consistency «Cronbach Alpha Coefficient», (a=0.93 for the 1st factor & a=0.91 for the 2nd factor). Overall, obtained validity and reliability coefficients for IPSS-A were satisfactory for p<0.001. Based on the results of this research IPSS-A can be used in psychological research for identifying POLICE STRESS.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Job STRESS is among the most common illnesses of our age. Studies indicate that job STRESS can stem from personal factors, nature and characteristics of jobs, organizational roles, organizational structure, relations, organization’s management, etc. Therefore, proper understanding and cognizance of job STRESS factors and adjusting and reducing them can pave the ground for organization’s improvement and flourishing. The present study aims at investigating job STRESS level among I. R. I POLICE University (IRIPU) graduates working in Tehran POLICE Stations.Method: The present research is of survey type. The variables impacting job STRESS dealt with in the present research are: personal features (age and gender), organizational structure, role’s characteristics, training and environmental resources. To assess the impact level of every variable, various methods such as simple and multi-variable regression analysis, Spearman, Man Whitney and CrosKal Wallice correlation coefficient is used. Statistical population of the study is IRIPU graduates (graduated in2001-2006) working in Tehran POLICE Stations. Statistical sample was randomly selected. With respect to omission of incorrect and incomplete questionnaires 107 correct questionnaires were accepted for statistical analysis.Findings: According to the findings of the study proved that there was no significant relationship between personnel individual characteristics (age, gender, being married) and environmental resources with personnel job STRESS; however, there is significant relationship between training, role features, and organizational structure.Conclusion: Based on multi-variable regression analysis, among independent variables organizational structure had the most part in predicting dependent variable behavior.

Abstract: 

Apart from the nature of POLICE job, a lot of mental pressures have been. Identified which originate from broadness of social and organizational communications in terms of type of the geographical area under their coverage and various clients and addressees. IRI POLICE (IRIP) personnel compared with other professionals are under more pressure. The most important issue is broadness of the level of their social activities and missions. The second issue is that IRIP personnel tolerate considerable pressure; and their jobs are the centre of the attention of the society. This survey aims at surveying the factors which lead to emergence of STRESS on the part of SWAT officers while controlling riots in Tehran. The participants under survey were a sample of Tehran SWAT officers (n=200) randomly selected among three ranks: senior officers (6), junior officers (27) and noncommissioned officers (167). The tool used for collecting information was self-made questionnaire with Likert range and the questionnaire validity along with studying resources, test; experts, advisor instructors and advisors' comments; and reliability has been calculated through using Alpha Chronbach's coefficient (a=0.81). Frequency, percentage, mean, SD, X2 test and variance analysis were used to analyze data. The results of the research gives the first priority to physical and emotional damages in terms of STRESSors and the other priorities are given to ambiguity in dealing with rioters, performance appraisal, life risks, organizational relationship and job position downgrade.

Abstract: 

The purpose of this study is to validate the organizational POLICE STRESS questionnaire using the correlation research method. The statistical population includes 12, 300 POLICE officers in 22 districts and cities of Tehran Province of which 360 people were selected as a statistical sample by using stratified random sampling. The research tool is the organizational POLICE STRESS questionnaire. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling using LISREL8. 5 software. First, the model parameters were estimated by the maximum likelihood (MI) method and were used in order to fit the model. In addition, several indices were used such as chi-square ratio to the degree of freedom (χ 2 / df), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), and Normed Fit Index (NFI), Parsimony Normed Fit Index (PNFI), Normalized Fit Index (NNFI), Incremental Fit Index (IFI), and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA). The results showed that the measurement model had appropriate fit and fit indices were approved (x2/df=2/89؛ RMSEA=0/072؛ PNFI=0/80؛ NNFI=0/93؛ NFI=0/91؛ CFI=0/94؛ IFI=0/94). Additionally, the results illustrated that all items except items 17 and 18 could be good predictors of the concept of POLICE organizational STRESS; Therefore, it could be suggested that researchers and the POLICE organization can use the 18-item organizational POLICE STRESS questionnaire to measure organizational POLICE STRESS.

Abstract: 

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to highlight the STRESSors involved in an occupation at potential risk – the profession of law enforcement. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reviews the history of POLICE STRESS studies. It describes prevention and treatment programs that have unfortunately not been sufficiently utilized because of the POLICE culture. Findings – The documented symptoms of STRESS include digestive orders, cardiovascular diseas, alcoholism, domestic violence, post-traumatic STRESS disorder, depression and suicide. While some POLICE officers start their careers in excellent physical health, some retire early or even die from job-related STRESS disorders if the cumulative impact of STRESS exacts its toll. Originality/value – The paper offers a description of COP.2.COP a confidential hotline for officers and their families staffed by retired officers and licensed professionals.

Abstract: 

Challenges like employees' psychological strain and organisational changes have forced governments and organisations to define new major procedures in governmental section. These changes should be reviewed especially for POLICE employees who are under the pressures and STRESSes from their policing job. The present study is intended to identify the occupational STRESSes and their intra-organisational and inter-organisational effects in preventive POLICE of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). This is a descriptive heuristic study based on an applied goal and a statistical population consisting of senior officers (Senior Management) of preventive POLICE of IRI. A total of 230 people of the population were randomly selected from all over the country. After interviewing the seniors and commanders and completing the questionnaires, the results were analysed by PLS and SPSS software packages. The findings showed that the variables were a combination of internal and external factors and R2 was equal to 0.821, so the value of R2 is correct and therefore the constructed model is validated. According to the results, the hypothesis that the two intra-organisational and inter-organisational factors can impact the STRESS level of the POLICE employees is confirmed and after ranking, intra-organisational factors showed greater impacts on the STRESS levels as compared to the inter-organisational factors.
